Orlando Neuropsychology and Counseling Center, LLC was formed in February 2011 by Kristan Olafsson, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, in response to the need in the community for combined assessment, treatment, and cognitive rehabilitation services for persons who have suffered brain injuries, and strokes. In addition, assessment and rehabilitation services are also useful in cases of dementia, cognitive dysfunction, learning disabilities, and ADHD.
Kristjan Olafsson, Ph.D.
Dr. Olafsson has been in the field of psychology for nearly 20 years, having completed practicums and an American Psychological Association pre-doctoral internship at Crownsville State Hospital in Maryland, with participation in a formal neuropsychology training program. Dr. Olafsson completed a forensic neuropsychology residency with Dr. Aaron Noonberg at the Osler Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. Dr. Olafsson also completed a year long externship at the Maryland General Hospital Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Center; he was employed as a school psychologist in Maryland and Florida; and the consulting neuropsychologist for the Halifax Hospital Traumatic Brain Injury team. He is in his 12th year of providing neuropsychological services in Florida with the Neuropsychological Assessment Service. Dr. Olafsson's hobbies include music, writing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Kelly Barrington, Psy.D.
Dr. Barrington has worked in the field of psychology for 10
years. She received her doctoral degree from the Massachusetts School of
Professional Psychology. She completed several practica, including serving as
part of a clinical team for the adult inpatient psychiatric unit at Brigham and
Women's Faulkner Hospital, in Boston. Dr. Barrington completed a pre-doctoral,
APA-approved internship in counseling and psychological/neuropsychological
assessment at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. Next,
she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychological assessment at MassGeneral for Children at North Shore
Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts. She remained on staff for 5 years,
after which she was employed in pediatric assessment in several settings
including a group practice, private practice, and an urban school system in
Massachusetts. For the past 2 years, Dr. Barrington has worked in the greater
Orlando area as a therapist for clients of all ages. Dr. Barrington
enjoys exercise, books, photography, art, and the outdoors. Faith Powers, Psy.D.Faith J. Powers, Psy.D. graduated with her Doctorate of
Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2007. She completed her post-doctoral residency at
a community mental health facility in Florida in 2008 and is currently licensed
in the state of Florida. Dr. Powers has
experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in the individual and
group therapeutic format as well as in assessing children, adolescents, and
adults. Dr. Powers believes seeking
assistance is one of the bravest steps a person can take when faced with life's
difficulties. Her aim is to provide support
to the client throughout the therapeutic process. She offers evening and weekend appointments to help facilitate the treatment of her patients.
